Let’s set up an Environment Group

Volunteers Wanted for the Chilton Environment Team

Chilton Parish Council is setting up a team of volunteer residents to support the PC in enhancing the appearance and environment of Chilton & Easington.

This Environment Team would;

  • Organise the village clean-up events and working parties for specific projects.
  • Organise village participation initiatives – for example, a spring bulb planting project.
  • Monitor and maintain the footpaths and stiles around the parish. Maintenance would be carried out by landowners, sub-contractors and village volunteers.
  • Report maintenance issues of village infrastructure, trees and verges to the Parish Council.
  • Suggest investments and projects that improve the aesthetics of our village.

A community-led Environment Team has worked well in neighbouring villages, making a real difference to their village centres and surroundings, so let’s replicate the model.

To do this, we need the help of the community itself, so if you care about Chilton and want to see how you can help improve the village, please get in touch.

Do you have any spare apples?

Chilton is blessed with an abundance of apples, yet unfortunately, a significant portion of these apples end up going to waste. To tackle this issue, Philippa Green has devised a plan to transform the surplus apples into Chilton Apple Juice that will help in financing projects like our Community Green Space Project.

To participate in this project, register your interest, and we will quickly get in touch with you to gather the apples and transport them for juicing. The resultant juice will then be sold both online and at various village events, with all proceeds being utilised for the betterment of the village.

If you desire more information regarding this project, Philippa will be available at this week’s Chilton Social (Friday, 5:30 p.m., St Mary’s Church) and will be delighted to explain more.

So, if you’re willing and able to lend a hand, we would appreciate you registering for this exciting and worthwhile project.

Fix My Street Does Work

The road defects in Chapel Lane were repaired in June after Duncan Parker registered all the potholes on Buckinghamshire Fix-My-Street, proving that the system does work.

Thank you to Duncan and all the other residents who have reported road defects and other street maintenance issues this year. Most have now been fixed, but there are plenty of faults to register! With a new Local Area Technician for Buckinghamshire Roads (who has visited Chilton and met with councillors) and a new roads maintenance contractor in Balfour Beatty, we are promised an improved level of service.

Issues will be prioritised if more people register a fault, so if you would like to see something fixed, don’t leave it to others to register the problem. Just go on to our website and visit www.chiltonpc.org.uk/fix-my-street  (You’ll find it under Useful Numbers in the menu) and take five minutes to log the fault.

Also, please encourage neighbours to do the same.

More news about this month’s Chilton Social

As promised, I have now got more news about this month’s Chilton Social which will take place on Friday 21st July,

The social will take place, weather permitting, at the Cart Wash in front of Chilton House between 6 and 8:30pm.

We plan to take two groups of people down to the farm where they will be able to see the robotic milking taking place. There will be a small charge of £2 per person to take the trip down to the farm with the proceeds going to our lovely church.

We will also have a BBQ for everyone back at the Cart Wash with burgers at only £3., and of course, drinks will be available.

However, it is vital that we can plan ahead and so we need to know how many are coming and whether you wish to take the trip to the farm to see the milking. So we do need you to send me an email to tell me you are coming. Please email me here.

We do hope you can come for what I am sure will be a fascinating evening.
